A milestone in our sustainability commitment
The Namkhan is proud to announce that the resort has achieved Gold Standard certification from the Plastic Free Laos initiative — making it the first such certified resort in Laos. The certification is the highest level under the national programme and reflects an ongoing, operational commitment to eliminating single-use plastics across every part of the property.
How we got here
The Gold Standard isn't a one-off audit. The certification recognises sustained, day-to-day practice: the alternatives we use in housekeeping, the bottled-water replacement programme, the way our farm-to-table kitchen sources and stores ingredients, and the engagement of every team member in waste-reduction.
Our staff have been the engine of this work. From the housekeeping team retiring single-use amenity bottles, to the kitchen team finding plastic-free packaging for every ingredient our farm doesn't grow itself, the change has been collective and visible.
What this means for guests
Nothing changes about the experience — and that's the point. Sustainable luxury should feel effortless. Refillable in-room amenities, glass water, and zero plastic on guest tables aren't compromises; they're better. We hope that experiencing eco-luxury at this level inspires our guests to take a small piece of it home.
What's next
Gold is the highest tier in the Plastic Free Laos programme, but it's not the end of our work. We're now focused on extending the same standard upstream into our supply chain and onward into the Luang Prabang community we share.
